For writers, reading is important. It’s how we refill our creative wells. It’s a great way to draw inspiration for our stories. It’s one of the ways we learn what types of stories we want to write, and, more importantly, it teaches us what we don’t want to write.
It’s also something that’s easy to neglect. We can get so caught up in our own writing or supporting our fellow writers that we find ourselves too exhausted at the end of the day to crack open that book everyone’s been talking about.
I know I don’t read enough. However, I also love movies and video games. That’s why I decided to start my own ‘52 Stories a Year’ challenge. I’ve adapted the ‘52 Books a Year’ challenge from Goodreads to include movies, books, graphic novels, and games I check out. I probably won’t include television shows, unless it’s a mini-series or something that won’t take up too much of my life. Occasionally, I’ll include something I read, saw, or played a long time ago, but for the most part I’ll be checking out brand new stories.
These reviews will be posted once a week. I don’t have a background in English Literature or Fine Arts. These are just my opinions on how these stories resonated with me (or didn’t). Enjoy!
